Q:

Why are the statistical results slightly different between EMCALC 2000 and EMCALC 95?

A:

EMCALC 2000 gives the user a choice of whether or not to add a half bin width (half the resolution of the meter) to each data value prior to computing statistics. EMCALC 95 always added the half bin width when computing statistics. Since the default in EMCALC 2000 is to not add the half bin width, the statistical differences are likely due to this feature. You can make EMCALC 2000 add the half bin width by checking the box “Add Half Bin Width” on the Units/Calibration tab of the Options dialog box. For more information on the implications of using this feature, read Appendix C in the online documentation.
