ENERTECH Consultants
was selected by the California Public Health Foundation to perform statewide EMF
measurements in California schools. The goal of this project was to determine the range of
EMF levels in California public schools, to identify and characterize the sources of those
magnetic fields, and to evaluate possible techniques to reduce those fields. This work
was performed under the direction of the California Department of Health Services as
part of The Electric and Magnetic Fields Program. Enertech performed EMF measurements
in a random sampling of about ninety public schools. The measurement work included a
survey of classrooms and outdoor activity areas, identification and characterization of
magnetic field sources, 24-hour field recordings, wire code classification, and
identification of nearby outdoor electrical facilities. The ENERTECH team was led by Dr. Luciano Zaffanella and Mr. Chris Hooper. This project started in early 1996 and was completed in 2000. |
